As a founder of a coworking space I’m always attempting to define the atmosphere and let visitors know how beneficial it can be working at altspace.  It’s friendly but not over-familiar, casual yet professional and importantly we have fun.  There are reported to be close to 22,000* coworking offices across the world now and as the movement matures new studies are quickly emerging.  This research helps us move the conversation on from our anecdotal good impressions to actual user feedback.

In 2016 I held pop up coworking days, initially through a Jelly meet up for freelancers and independent workers.  The casual focus groups helped me refine my business plan, choose a suitable start up space and make important decisions on design and marketing.  It’s amazing now to utilise Deskmag* and Coworking Insights** global research to help spread the good word.

Here are some of the big wins from working in a coworking space.

  • 52% of respondents agreed that their coworking space has helped them make new friends
  • Over a third reported that they’ve worked in ventures with people they met at the space
  • Members appreciate the proximity many have to good transport links
  • Other benefits are their comfort, design and the flexibility of using different locations **
