We baked in numbers, celebrated Halloween and raised a glass after work. A small gesture for a local charity made some of us stop in our tracks and realise that we can do more. We walk to our shared office each day grateful for what we have but what about the many who are going short? This is what’s driving our campaign over the next two months and our ambition to do something to minimise Child Poverty around Christmas.
The Hits Radio ‘ Cash for Kids ‘ campaign collects gifts and raises funds for local families and children who would otherwise be missing out this December. The charity rep spoke to a group of us last week and told us that 20,000 families in Greater Manchester are signed up this year. We took it in, that’s 20,000 children who might not receive any presents this Christmas.
We want all of our members involved if possible. The Cash for Kids team have agreed to come and pick up our donations in mid December. This year we will replace our annual Secret Santa with this gesture to the kids so here I am giving you lots of notice. A £30 or £40 gift can make a huge difference and it will be more meaningful as the child concerned will have a name and a desired gift. Let’s make a difference and do our bit to make sure that fewer go without over the festive period.
